They are victims of human rights abuses and they should be entitled to more appropriate accommodation for their needs. We would be advocating for the Minister to create an alternative housing solution for victims of human trafficking,” she saidMs Stapleton revealed that, like asylum seekers, victims of human traffickers can also be left living in direct provision centres for extended periods of time, which can have a negative impact on mental health. She added that the living conditions can cause some of the victims to suffer “secondary trauma in addition to the trauma they have already suffered”. The man then grabs an object from the bed of the truck and approaches the driver’s side of the vehicle.“When he came out the car, he had something and was hitting the car,” Lopez explains.Lopez can be heard screaming, telling her boyfriend to drive away.“I was afraid. I didn’t know what they had in their car. I just wanted to get home,” she says.Lopez and her boyfriend were able to record the truck’s license plate number and report it to police. They also posted it on social media, which allowed people online to quickly identify the couple by name.“We want to get justice because it’s not right,” says Lopez. “I don’t want them to just go freely and continue to do this to someone else.”Police are now investigating the incident as a hate crime. They arrested 29-year-old Gregory Howell and 29-year-old Rachel Howell over the weekend. A woman in Torrance, California, says she and her her boyfriend were the targets of vandalism and a racist rant last Wednesday night, and the incident was caught on camera.“We were just coming back from having my birthday dinner,” Itzel Lopez says. “We were just in shock. They were being really mean and racist.”On their way home, Lopez, who is Mexican, noticed two people in a pickup truck were driving behind them for several minutes. As they approached a red light, the truck went in front of them.“I don’t know why they followed us for miles until we came to a complete stop because they cut us in front,” adds Lopez.A man and woman stepped out of the truck, and Lopez started recording.“We tried to get away. She kept standing in front of the car and wouldn’t let us leave,” according to Lopez. In the video, the other woman can be heard heard saying, “White lives matter, b—h,” as the man is seen doing a Nazi salute in front of Lopez’s boyfriend, who is Black.
8 Feb 2017 International highlights in 2017 England championship schedule England Golf will host many of the world’s finest amateur players this year when it stages the European Men’s International Amateur Championship at Walton Heath in Surrey. The winner will book a place in the Open Championship at Royal Birkdale and the event will be one of the highlights of a packed calendar, alongside the Brabazon Trophy at Woodhall Spa, the Lincolnshire home of England Golf; and the Men’s Home Internationals at Moortown in Yorkshire. The 2017 England Golf championship season – for which entries have just opened – will feature events for elite amateurs and handicap golfers across the length and breadth of the country. The most southerly will be played at Trevose in Cornwall, and the most northerly at Berwick-upon-Tweed in Northumberland. There will be celebrations along the way – and not just from the winners. Two of the host clubs are marking their 125th anniversaries in 2017: South Staffs, which will host the English senior women’s amateur in May, and Harrogate, which will hold the senior women’s Brenda King Foursomes in October. The much sought-after Brabazon Trophy is the high spot of the early season. It will be played on the renowned Hotchkin course at Woodhall Spa in May and will attract a top-class international field. The title of English men’s open stroke play champion is one of the most prized in amateur golf and past winners include Major champions Sandy Lyle and Charl Schwartzel. It’s followed at the end of June by the European Amateur on the world-class Old Course at Walton Heath (image courtesy Charles Briscoe-Knight). This will be played immediately after the R&A’s Amateur Championship in Kent, creating a ‘double’ which should prove extremely attractive to international players from around the globe. It will be the second time England Golf has hosted this championship, having staged it 25 years ago at Hillside in Lancashire. England’s most recent European champion was Ashley Chesters, who won back-to-back-titles in 2013 and 2014 and took great advantage of his place in The Open of 2015. He tied 12th at St Andrews, springboarding his professional career and he is now playing on the European Tour. The keenly contested Men’s Home Internationals will be played in August at Moortown, which hosted the first Ryder Cup on British soil. England will take on the challenge of Scotland, Ireland and Wales and bid to regain the trophy for the first time since 2013 – when the championship was also held in Yorkshire, at Ganton. The England women’s team will defend their Home Internationals on home ground at Little Aston in Staffordshire, in a championship run by the newly merged R&A and the LGU. Other key dates for leading women golfers include the English women’s amateur at Lindrick in Yorkshire, and the increasingly international English women’s open stroke play at Woodhall Spa in August. Woodhall Spa will play a prominent role in England Golf championships for 2017 and will also host Golf Week, the showcase for a series of handicap events. The finalists in six team and individual events will be invited to Woodhall Spa to play off for their titles and be treated to the full English championship experience. England Golf runs more events for handicap golfers than for elite players and other tournaments for club golfers will be played throughout the season. These include the PING Family and Women’s Fourball tournaments, the Schools’ Team Championship, the Abraham Trophy to find England’s most improved girl golfer and the women’s Par Three championship. A win for Lyon is up for 19/10.Match Preview Chelsea will be hoping to conclude their pre-season preparations with a victorious result against Lyon as Sarri will be focusing on working to integrate his World Cup participants for the first time. The likes of Hudson-Odoi and Pedro started out wide in Sunday’s 2-0 defeat to English champions in the Community Shield, and Hazard and Willian could be instead be drafted onto the pitch – though Sarri will have to keep their fitness levels and the Premier League opener against Huddersfield Town in mind.Belgian international Courtois has also returned to England following his post-World Cup holiday, but is a doubt to feature in the squad to face Lyon after he purposely missed out on training in order to force a move to Real Madrid. That leaves the Blues with reserve goalkeeper Willy Caballero and new arrival Rob Green to fill in for the 26-year-old between the sticks. Sarri admitted that his side needed to improve following Sunday’s loss, telling reporters: “It’s not very easy. In the next week we have a friendly match again. I prefer in this moment to be on the pitch with the players training.”In the second half [of the Community Shield] there was a big difference from the physical point of view. So we have to work. Our pre-season until now has been a bit crazy, so we have to work.”Lyon manager Bruno Genesio will be happy to re-introduce midfielder Fekir to the side following a summer that saw the French international nearly complete a move to Liverpool. The midfielder was on the verge of signing for the club until he was unable to pass his medical, and has since been re-integrated to the side. The Ligue 1 club’s ICC exploits have seen them taste defeat to Inter but emerge victorious against Benfica, and will also be looking to round off their pre-season on a high before opening up their season against Amiens on Sunday.
