Tweet Photograph of flooding and damage at the Hillsborough Horticultural Centre in LayouThe Team Leader of the Hillsborough Horticulture Centre in Layou Mr. Keian Stephenson says the organization has suffered severe damages as a result of the overflowing of the  Matthieu Dam early this morning.Mr. Stephenson told Dominica Vibes News that following this major disaster it will take no less than twelve months to get the Centre back to normal.“Millions of dollars has been lost in damages at the centre and it will take no less than a year to get everything back to normal. We have lost 13 green houses with plants in them, three sheds with tractors and other equipments, we have lost plants such as yam, citrus, tissue plants, seedlings, The Chinese Railway Company recently donated some new equipment like tractors and plowers; these were also damaged, our fencing has been damaged, a container with equipment was also washed away.”Mr Stephenson also informed us that due to the large amount of sand estimated at 6 feet deep which was washed down, it will be very difficult to remove the sand and for plants to grow as well.Damage at Agricultural Centre in Layou“The area is filled with sand about 6 feet deep and this will take quite a while to remove and for plants to grow again.The European Union Horticulture Tissue Program has also been affected by the immense flooding of the Mattieu Dam.Dominica Vibes Newslast_img
