We never promised achche din, slogan given by social media, says Modi minister

first_imgIn what could serve as fodder for the Congress and other opposition parties to target the Narendra Modi government at the Centre, a cabinet colleague of the prime minister described the much publicised “achche din” slogan as a creation of people on social media.Talking to reporters in New Delhi, Minister for Mines, Steel, Labour and Employment Narendra Singh Tomar said the BJP never promised of achche din and the term was only used for election campaigning.”We never gave the slogan of achche din. ‘Achche din ayengey, Rahul nani ke ghar jayengey’, this slogan actually evolved on the social media and people started to relate it with the BJP,” Tomar told reporters.Tomar’s statement is certain to leave the BJP leadership red faced  and allow the Opposition to step up its attack on the government over the issue of price rise.When asked about the spiralling onion price, Tomar said the government is monitoring the situation and it is trying to export onion which will definitely bring the price down.The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led NDA government has often come under attack from Congress, which has described it as jumlon ki sirkar (government of slogans).Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi has used the phrase ‘suit, boot ki sirkar’ often in the recent past to target PM Modi and the NDA government. Rahul had first used the term during his intervention in Parliament on the contentious land bill.In his meeting with US President Barack Obama earlier this year, Modi had sported a pin-striped suit with his name monogrammed all over it, raising a huge controversy and forcing the BJP to sell the suit later at an auction in Gujarat for the rejuvenation of river Ganga.advertisementlast_img
