ICC World Twenty20: India always have a plan for Chris Gayle, says Sachin Tendulkar

first_imgAs India gear up to face West Indies in their ICC World Twenty20 semi-final at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium, the talk has obviously resolved around the kind of destruction Chris Gayle can cause on his day. However, former India batsman Sachin Tendulkar said Gayle might be a dangerous player in the format but exuded confidence in MS Dhoni’s men to keep the hard-hitting Jamaican quiet.  (Also read: Tendulkar, Ganguly want Rahane to replace Yuvraj for semi-final)  “Gayle is a dangerous player in the T20 format. But we too have equally good players,” Tendulkar told Aaj Tak in an exclusive interview. “We always have a plan for Gayle. We know his weakness and our bowlers have tackled him well in the past. Gayle respects the opposition and doesn’t go after every bowler. There are times where he hasn’t hesitated to play out maiden overs. He doesn’t play on his reputation of being a big-hitter. He  plans which bowler he will hit. He has become a mature cricketer,” Tendulkar said. On a flat Wankhede pitch, the lack of bowling options could hit the Caribbean side hard, given India’s explosive batting line-up. Most of them may not have fired yet but the likes of Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma would not be found wanting in the course of a run-feast. “West Indies have depth in their batting, but their bowling lacks variety. Dwayne Bravo is their most reliable bowler in the slog overs. “They don’t have a genuine quick. Andre Russell can bowl with some pace otherwise they miss a genuine pace bowler,” Tendulkar said. Tendulkar said West Indies have brought plenty of excitement to the tournament and added that he has enjoyed watching them churn out some sensational performances.advertisementlast_img
