Emery demands more from Arsenal players after Man Utd drawby Freddie Taylor25 days agoSend to a friendShare the loveUnai Emery is demanding more from his Arsenal players after Monday’s draw with Manchester United. The Gunners are fourth on the table after seven games, seven points behind leaders Liverpool. He told Sky Sports: “I want more – more in the result and in the performance but we are progressing. We were competitive but we can do better. We can control moments with the ball better and take more chances in the box.”We have young players who can take confidence. Bukayo [Saka] is progressing well but we need other players too. This is not the best in terms of points but one point can be good if we win next Sunday against Bournemouth.”We are very happy with him [Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang] and he is with his goal. We need more players with the ability to score.”I think Bukayo is getting good performances for us. We are having to play on Thursday and then on Sunday. You have seen the players being competitive.” About the authorFreddie TaylorShare the loveHave your say

About the authorFreddie TaylorShare the loveHave your say Dier flips Tottenham crisis fears: Look how far we’ve come!by Freddie Taylor9 days agoSend to a friendShare the loveEric Dier says crisis talks around Tottenham show how far the club have come.Spurs have won just three out of 11 games this season, conceding 10 goals in their last two outings. And Dier says the hysterical response to their poor form is indicative of the club’s status in the Premier League.”The main thing is we’ve been working all together – okay, some people have gone, some people have come in – but working all together over the last five years to get to the point where this is the conversation when you lose two games on the trot,” the 25-year-old told his club’s official website.”We’ve wanted to get to the point where we are considered a team that if you lose two games like that, you come in for a lot of criticism. Now, we have to embrace the situation.”We’ve got to this point and now we need to… as I said to the press after the Brighton game, we can’t back down, we need to push forward, push through it, fight through it, everyone together.”
Liverpool defender Van Dijk: We have bigger games than Man Utdby Paul Vegas7 days agoSend to a friendShare the loveVirgil van Dijk believes Liverpool’s rivalry with Manchester United is now bigger for the fans than players.Jurgen Klopp’s side head to Old Trafford on Sunday as they look to continue their winning start to the Premier League season.”It’s massive, but it’s more massive for the fans. I think all of the Champions League games are as big as this,” Van Dijk told Sky Sports.”The whole atmosphere and leading to the actual game is bigger than some other games but I don’t think it’s the biggest of the season.”The big ones are the Champions League and the ones that are hopefully going to win us the Premier League title.”He added: “They’re not in the best way, they’re not fully confident and they’re not in the situation they want to be in. But the good thing about football is you can bounce back in any game.”They might think this is the best occasion to bounce back from it but we know that. We want to go out and fight for every metre on the pitch and try and take the three points back to Liverpool.” About the authorPaul VegasShare the loveHave your say
Dabo Swinney Clemson CadenceYesterday was a pretty big day at Clemson. The Tigers had their annual spring game in the afternoon, and at night, country music star and Clemson alum Lee Brice played a show at Littlejohn Coliseum. Before Brice’s music career took off, he was a long snapper for the Tigers, so of course he’s a huge Clemson football fan. At his show last night, Brice had CU head coach Dabo Swinney join him on-stage and lead the crowd in the Clemson cadence count. Here’s some video of the moment:Dabo leading the way before lee brice last night!!! Neymar is unlikely to play when Paris Saint-Germain travel to Manchester United in the Champions League next month, according to head coach Thomas Tuchel. The Ligue 1 champions announced the world’s most expensive player had suffered a “painful recurrence” of the injury he sustained to his right foot last season after he limped out of this week’s 2-0 win over Strasbourg in the Coupe de France.PSG returned to action in the absence of their star attacker on Sunday, swatting aside Rennes 4-1 as Edinson Cavani hit a brace. As the match was being played, RMC Sport reported Neymar would not be fit to play in the first leg of the last-16 tie at Old Trafford on February 12.Tuchel acknowledged this was the most likely outcome, telling Canal Plus: “It’s going to be super difficult,” he said.”As I explained [on Saturday] it’s too early to talk about a return date. We have to wait for the first week, which is very important, and his reaction to treatment.”Only after that can we be more precise. But it’s going to be super difficult – that’s not a secret.”FULL TIME: Paris Saint-Germain 4 v Rennes 1#PSGSRFC#ICICESTPARIS pic.twitter.com/zOE1r9lPYB— Paris Saint-Germain (@PSG_English) January 27, 2019While the likes of Cavani and his fellow weekend goalscorers Angel Di Maria and Kylian Mbappe can deputise for Neymar ably enough, Tuchel’s squad is not so amply stocked in central midfield.Marco Verratti’s injury absence and Adrien Rabiot’s exile from first-team affairs left Brazilian defenders Marquinhos and Dani Alves to form a central two against Rennes. It makes the long-mooted signing of Leandro Paredes from Zenit all the more pressing, although Tuchel made light of not getting the deal over the line this weekend as had been expected.”I’ve been expecting him already for a few days, but he isn’t here,” he said.”I’ve been looking in the shower, in the dressing room, in the treatment room, with the goalkeepers… but he isn’t there.”Before the United showdown, PSG face two tough league games against Lyon and Bordeaux.Their win on Sunday moved the Parisians 13 points clear of second-place Lille, yet PSG have two games in hand and could extend that margin to 19 points.
CLEMSON, SC – OCTOBER 03: (L-R) Head coach Dabo Swinney of the Clemson Tigers talks to head coach Brian Kelly of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish before their game at Clemson Memorial Stadium on October 3, 2015 in Clemson, South Carolina. (Photo by Streeter Lecka/Getty Images)The Clemson Tigers and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish both finished the regular season undefeated, but one of these prestigious programs will have to fall short in the Cotton Bowl.Clemson made the bold decision to let Trevor Lawrence takeover as the starter, and truth be told it was the best possible decision for the team. As for Notre Dame, the switch from Brandon Wimbush to Ian Book really transformed its offense.Even though these teams might seem evenly matched heading into their semifinal, the consensus around the college football world is that Clemson should be the favorite.Well, OddsShark’s computer prediction for the Cotton Bowl is out and it clearly favors the Tigers over the Fighting Irish. If the Fighting Irish can neutralize the Tigers’ defensive line, then this showdown might just come down to the wire.Notre Dame and Clemson are set to kick off at 4:00 p.m. ET from AT&T Stadium. The game will be on ESPN.
LINCOLN, NE – AUGUST 30: The Nebraska Cornhuskers take the field for their game against the Florida Atlantic Owls at Memorial Stadium on August 30, 2014 in Lincoln, Nebraska. (Photo by Eric Francis/Getty Images)The Nebraska Cornhuskers have a talented group of incoming players heading into next season, but it turns out that standout tailback Dedrick Mills will have to wait before signing his National Letter of Intent. If he wants to participate in Nebraska’s spring practice, he’ll have to sign by Jan. 15, which is the final day for junior college players to sign until the February period.Mills was expected to sign with the Huskers during the early signing period in December, after he had already committed to the program. Unfortunately for the three-star JuCo product, he first needed to clear the air on a legal issue. It turns out that Mills missed a court date that was scheduled due to his misdemeanor charge for driving with a suspended license. Not showing up for the court date resulted in a bench warrant for the Huskers commit. From the Lincoln Journal Star:Mills, a Waycross, Georgia, native and Garden City (Kansas) Community College running back who verbally committed to the Huskers in September, turned himself in Dec. 14 to the Ware County Sheriff’s Department because the court issued a bench warrant after he had failed to appear in court previously, the Ware County Clerk of Courts confirmed to the Journal Star on Monday morning. A Clerk of Courts official said Mills received probation following a Dec. 19 appearance in front of Judge Doug Gibson but did not have the exact plea immediately available. The early signing period in December lasts three days, but Mills did not sign with Nebraska after that day in court, and according to the Journal Star report, he has not responded to further messages asking for updates. As the report notes, Nebraska cannot openly discuss unsigned players either. In the event that he does sign over the next week, he’d be able to put this whole incident in the past. With the dust starting to settle on this incident, Mills will have the chance to eventually sign with the Cornhuskers, as both the regular signing period and the mid-year JuCo transfer window are possible options.[Lincoln Journal Star]
TUSCALOOSA, AL – NOVEMBER 18: Jalen Hurts #2 of the Alabama Crimson Tide looks on during the second half of the game against the Mercer Bears at Bryant-Denny Stadium on November 18, 2017 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. (Photo by Kevin C. But, the Oklahoma Football Twitter account did recently retweet this SportsCenter announcement about Hurts’ decision:Breaking: Alabama QB Jalen Hurts has committed to play his senior season at the University of Oklahoma. (via The Players’ Tribune) pic.twitter.com/U38StRnYgc— SportsCenter (@SportsCenter) January 16, 2019Hurts became Alabama’s starter as a true freshman in 2016.Despite leading the Crimson Tide to an SEC title and a win over Washington in the College Football Playoff semifinal, he was unable to lift the team over Deshaun Watson and the Clemson Tigers in the national title game.Hurts got a second bite at the apple in 2017, avenging the previous year’s loss and beating Clemson in the College Football Playoff semifinal. In the title game against Georgia, however, he struggled in the first half and was benched in favor of Tua Tagovailoa.Tagovailoa went on to lead the Crimson Tide to a comeback win over the Bulldogs, and the following year, beat out Hurts for the starting job.Hurts would only play sparingly in the 2018 season, but famously replaced an injured Tagovailoa in the SEC Championship Game. He went 7-of-9 for 82 yards with a passing touchdown, and added another 28 yards and a touchdown on the ground to lead Alabama to a comeback win.
